Yes! I’m still here!

Oh my word! How is it June already?! I thought I should post something and let you know I’m still alive over here. Just to bring you up to date, I finished Anatomy & Physiology 1 and 2! I kept my coveted 4.0 GPA and, since I’m on a deadline, I decided to take 5 classes this summer. Yes, I know, I am crazy. In the midst of all that, I have been working on projects here and there.

This month starts birthday craziness with my grands (who I am going to go see next week!!). Bryce turns two on the 11th and he is obsessed with Mickey Mouse. His sisters have matching Frozen pillowcases and, now that he’s in a big boy bed, he wanted his own. It had been a while since I had made a pillow case, so I asked: WWJD (What Would Jenny Do?) and found this lovely Missouri Star tutorial. Lots of fun. Easy Tube Pillow Case Tutorial. It would be a great project to do with your children who will soon have the summer “I’m bored” disease.

You may recall that I decided to make all of the table toppers in “The Big Book of Table Toppers”. I did finally finish Ranch String. WOW. This took way more time than I thought it would. The pattern calls for sewing the strips onto paper, and ripping the paper foundation off, but I decided to use squares of unbleached muslin as my base. It was easy and added a little more stability to my squares. This is a long runner, 10.5 x 104.5″. I have a 10 man table, so I am excited to use it. If you do want to make this, do not cut all of your pieces first, like the pattern suggests. I had a lot left overs. When you get to the smaller parts of the square, you don’t need full size strips and it wasted a lot of fabric. Also, don’t be afraid to play with your fabric choices. Instead of making my accent piece a solid, I went with this super cute sunflower print. Do what works for you! I love how it’s all wonky and doesn’t line up. Nearly impossible to mess up!

If you’d like to sew along with me, you can pick up a copy of the book here The Big Book of Table Toppers. (aflink) The next topper in the book is Grandma’s Sewing Basket and it looks like fun too! Thank goodness it isn’t 104″ long!

I have also been working on my modern take on Lori Holt’s Granny Squared (aflink). I have made some progress and you can see how it is starting to play together color wise. I have 8 more blocks to make and then the attaching begins!

I hope you are all enjoying your summer breaks and I will try to not be a stranger!

Have a Peachy Day!
