One of the perks to being on the road is getting to experience new, interesting places that aren’t necessarily on the well-traveled tourist path. Today we ventured into downtown Pittsburgh to see the Wholey Fish Market. The Robert Wholey & Co Inc. has been around for 100 years and carries fresh fish and seafood at amazing prices. As amazing as the prices are, the experience itself is priceless. I had never seen such stacks of fresh fish and even tanks of live fish! For a small fee, they will clean and cook your fish too.
And like any good shop, they also had interesting notions!
In addition to the take home offerings, they also had hand rolled sushi and an onsite cafe! I ordered the lobster mac and cheese (I LOVE MAC AND CHEESE!) which is handmade in their store daily. ‘Twas tasty!
After our fish adventure, we walked the downtown shopping district which is full of street vendors and more awesome food! I found a bakery specializing in handmade biscotti! Who can pass that up, right? On our travels, we spotted this interesting craft car. Every inch of it was covered in bling! Yes, those are Barbie doll legs on top!
Once we were good and exhausted, we stopped for coffee for the drive home. Fish, bling, biscotti and coffee. The perfect ending to a perfect day. I’m hoping the good weather holds so we can go see more of this beautiful area next weekend!
Goodbye until next time!
